A general view of Pasargadae

In 550 BC King Cyrus of the Achaemenian or Persian dynasty defeated his Median grandfather in battle to found the Persian Empire. That fateful battle is believed to have taken place near this valley where Cyrus built the first royal city of the Persians - Pasargadae. While not many structures survive, the site's setting is impressive.
