Bisitun from a distance

The cliffs of Bisitun in western Iran rise from the surrounding plains. The relief of Darius the Great is to be found on the far-left peak. The modern road in the foreground reminds us that the cliffs of Bisitun have stood guard over a major road linking Iran and Iraq since the remote past.
