Darius Relief at Bisitun

Surrounding the figures of Darius' relief at Bisitun is a tri-lingual inscription establishing Darius' right to the Achaemenid throne. Written in cunieform script, the same text is repeated in Babylonian, Elamite and Old Persian. This is the first appearance of Old Persian and even Darius boasts in his inscription that the language of the Persians had never been written down before.
